Fractionated Radiofrequency Needling

What is the type of energy used in this procedure?

It is a radiofrequency and not a laser delivered deep inside the skin via micro needles.

How does this equipment work?

An emerging technology for deeper skin lesions is dermal bipolar fractionated radiofrequency, which delivers radiofrequency energy within the dermis via micro-needle electrode pairs.
Radiofrequency and needling trigger the body’s natural healing process accelerating the production of collagen and new healthy skin cells helping in wrinkles, large open skin pores, scars and acne marks.
Radiofrequency causes a thermal change in the sebaceous or oil glands, helping in reducing the acne breakouts.

Does the treatment hurt?

It is a painful procedure.

What is done for pain management?

Patient is asked to apply the topical anesthetic generously on the area to be treated about 15 to 30 minutes before the procedure starts. A polythene sheet should be applied on top of topical anesthetic to increase the efficacy of the anesthetic.

How long does it take to treat the whole face?

About 10-15 minutes.

How many treatments are required in general?

On average 6-8 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart is an ideal treatment protocol.

When does the patient see results?

The patient starts seeing the results after 2 -4 months of having 4-5 radiofrequency sessions.

How does the skin look like immediately after the treatment?

It looks red. There might be some swelling.

When does the skin get back to normal?

After 1-3 days, skin gets back to normal.

Can makeup be applied after the treatment?

Preferrably no. But if it is very necessary, it can be applied and removed afterwards with glycerin and rosewater.

What is the post treatment care?
  • Avoid using acne face washes, creams and gels till skin is completely healed.

  • Avoid using prescribed bleaching agents for pigmentation till skin gets back to normal.
  • Avoid strong sun exposure and heat.
  • Avoid skin rubbing, scrubbing & fruit peeling.
  • Mild cleansing washes and soaps and moisturizer should be applied as advised by the doctor.
  • After washing the treated area, dab it dry and don’t keep it moist.
  • Ask your doctor about the skin repair cream available from our clinic. It will heal your skin faster.
  • In case of acne, oral antibiotics can be given to counter any acne flare up after the treatment.
  • In case of a medical history of herpes simplex viral infection, oral anti virals are given.
Are there any complications seen with this procedure?

So far no complications are seen.
